MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel Pump Location
I am an MGB guy (sorry) - but going to try to help a failed midget owner tonight. Please can someone let me know if the fuel pump arrangement is similar to a B? i.e. mounted in wheel arch at rear and electro-mech type. Thanks. Don't know year of car yet. |

AFAIK all a series engined Midgets had a rear mounted SU pump a la MGB. Triumph 1500 engined cars had a mechanical pump on the crankcase. |

Earlier 948 and 1098 Sprites had a mechanical pump mounted on the block didn't they? |

If it's electrical, the pump is not located in the wheel arch. Rather, it's in the rear axle hump, bolted against the rear panel / top of hump fairly centrally as it's in line with the fuel tank take off. You need to slide under the car to get at it. As lawrence has pointed out, early midgets (up to mk2) used a mechanical pump on the block. |

Thanks gents - much appreciated. |

Let us know what you find. Most of the time the ground wire is rusty and corroded Prop |

O.k - so it was a 1500 pump on engine. No fuel coming to carbs, removed feed pipe from tank and attached pump, sucked fuel through o.k. Reconnected pump and cranked to prime. Pump working o.k. Cleaned filter on top to be thorough and car running fine. Seemed to be an air lock in pump. Apparently car ran dry some while back. Another MG back on the road ! Thanks |
