MG Midget and Sprite Technical - fuel pump problems / suggestions
I have a 1975 midget with a fuel pump that's not working. I can't get a wrench on the nut on the left side of pump to remove it (distributor in the way) Should I replace with electric pump for time being at least, and if so, which pump should I look for? Thanks to all. |

We just had this question not long ago. Apperantly you do have to pulle the dissy on to get access to the pump You can get.an electric pump and install it at.the real right side of.the car in.the wheel.well, but.its a bit of a hassle to.set up If you have duel Su HS 4 carbs you will need a lowbpressure pump... between 1.5 to 4 psi max or you will need a regulator to drop the.pressure... to much pressure and it blows fuel past the needle valves If you have the stronburg carb... I cant tell you I have no idea. For the hassle and the cost id stay with the mechanical pump... I think we determined there are 2 differant pump sizes...but I cant recall Just put a fine scratch mark on the dissy body and the engine block |

To realine the dissy to the block during reinstall... then you will be fine on your dissy timming |

The 1500 dissy can be removed complete with its clamp, and it will go back in exactly the same orientation, so no need to worry about the timing. Here's a pic, showing the clamp. |

Hi Ben. Here's a link to the thread Prop mentioned when Steve in Australia had a dud pump: http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&archiveyear=97_2015.dat&access=&subject=97&subjectar=97&source=T&thread=2015102001283510263 You might find it helpful, especially as Dave O'Neill gave the good news about the dissy! If your pump is a type Y which is identifiable by having 5 screws holding the upper and lower halves together it is rebuildable. It's a super easy task and the spares kit is inexpensive. Good luck! |
