MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel sender resistance
I know I have seen it before but has anyone got the resistance values for the sender unit full/empty? The tank is coming out this weekend to check for a leak and I am sick of the needle pointing to half when it is empty.(full when full) '68 midget. Col. |

The change from the meter-movement gauge to the bimetallic gauge came in Nov 1968, so you should have the early gauge. My notes show the resistance of the sender at 0 ohms empty, 90 ohms full. The sender used with the bimetallic gauge should be something like 220 ohms empty, 20 ohms full. - Bill |

Thanks Bill, now to tackle taking the tank out and see what is going on. Col. |

I have a problem with a 59 Frogeye where the tank is half full but the gauge is showing full. Anyone have any idea where the fault lies before I,too, have to drop the tank. |

If gauge always shows full, could be a short in the wire from the gauge to the tank (for later gauges) or a disconnected wire between gauge and sender for earlier ones... A |

Thanks Tony. I dont think it is as short as the needle is not actually hitting the stop. I will try to get out to play later today to source the problem. |

As far as I could figure out a bad earth was the culprit. There was no earth on the sender unit itself and after fitting a seperate one, the gauge seems to be working as it should for the first time in years. Another job finally conpleted. Now to stop the rain from coming in on my knees!! |
