MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuse Ratings

I won't to replace the four fuses in my 78 MG midget (Fed) and can't find what the actual amp ratings of the fuses I need for replacing. The fuses I have in the care are all rusted out and I don't even know if they were the right ratings and if they were in the right slots. Are there specific types of fuses that I will need to buy? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
D.

D, the fuses in your Midget are all rated the same. However, with that said, you need the actual fuses designed for your car not the ones from your local shop. The ones in your car are rated at 17/35 amp. This means that they will handle 17 amp and blow at 35 amp current draw.

These fuses are available from virtually every British car parts supplier and do not cost a lot. It's best to have some spare sets on hand anyway just in case you need some at a later date.

Thanks Clive!

One other question - I see in the Victoria British Catalog there are fuses rated 10, 15, 25, 35, & 50 Amp. It doesn't specify 17/35. If I purchase the 35 Amp fues from them, is the 17/35 rating implied?

thanks again,

DLW, no. They sound like regular glass fuses. See if Moss has them. You can ask them directly at their toll free line if I reall. Haven't had a new catalogue from Moss or V-B for ages. That's what happens when your car is running correctly. You don't order a lot of parts!

I have just purchased selection of 25 classic car fuses for UK£3.00 + postage. check out seller njt-group on English eBay. You can specify what amps you want, and can mix and match

Thanks guys for all your help! Now the search is on for the 17/35 Amp fuse. Geoff, I'll check out the ebay site. I did find this article online by Allan Brown which went into a little more detail as to why I need 17/35 fuses instead of the others. Take a read if your interested:

DLW, I know that Obsolete Automotive located in Point Edward, Ontario do carry them. Mike's a good fellow and quite knowledgable about things. I guess he had better be otherwise he would be broke and out of business.

I've been dealing with him since 1989.
