MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gas Gauge
I am having problems with my gas gauge, it never reads correctly, when I fill tank it never shows full, is there a way to take out the sending unit and test it outside of the the gas tank to see if the gauge will read full and if it does, where is the best place to purchase a new full tank sending unit, its a 179 midget..thanks |

i guess you have tried replacing the voltage stabiliser first, |

Sometimes the float becomes porous and sinks into the fuel, so gauge reads low. You need to drop the tank from the boot floor; un-couple the fuel pipe on leading edge first. Best done with tank near empty, for weight considerations. Usual care with exposed fuel... Sender is fixed to top of tank; tap the retainer to undo, and inpsect. A |

If you need parts, here are a few places, I've used them all & no problems: http://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/sm/t.aspx http://www.mossmotors.com/Browse/ComponentMenuProducts.aspx?WebCatalogID=1&PlateTypeID=1 http://lbcarco.com/ http://www.englishparts.com/productSearch.aspx?partner=googleMidgetGeneral&ukey_make=8&ukey_model=103&gclid=CKqH7YTflpsCFQZlswod73czpg |

Be sure to put the sending unit in the right way. If you install it turned the wrong way, it may never read correctly |
