MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gear Leaver Position
I have been pondering about fitting a 5 speed box to my 1275 Sprite but have now decided against it and have sold the 5 speed box. I was discussing the conversion with the purchaser of the box and he said with a 1500 midget there is no need to shorten the linkage on a Type 9 box. Is this correct? Jan T |

Without shortening, you cut a new hole in the transmission tunnel and live with a gear lever about 4 & 1/2" further back. Some people like it. Or, as I did, you shorten the gearbox housing, moving the turret forward as far as the casting will allow and reweld it. This ends up with the gear lever 3/4" back but barely noticeable and it exits through the existing tranny hole and gaiter. |

Guy, we have been asked to look at fitting a type 9 to a K series using the k series bellhousing as we did with our Toyota Supra box. Could I trouble you for the length of your bellhousing? |
