MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gearbox parts

I've stripped my ribcase gearbox to fix a synchromesh problem. I was hoping it would just be a case of changing the baulk rings but judging from the attached photo it's the synchroniser cone on 2nd gear that is knackered. Does anyone know where I can source a reasonably priced replacement (new or used)? I've just checked with Moss and they want £98. Add this to a £70 ove hall kit and £30 for baulk rings and its starting to get expensive.

Thanks

Rob

Try minispares GEAR 2ND A PLUS 26 teeth DAM4932

I may have a new second gear and probably a used one, too. I will have a look later.

I know where you can get a really nice 5-speed type 9 gearbox if you feel like a change ... and you'd get it for way less than £198 :)

Thanks to all of you for your replies.

Alex, I took a look at the minispares site and the part is £20 cheaper than Moss.

Dave, thanks let me know what you find.

Rach, I have been tempted more than once with a type 9 but think I will keep it standard. The gearbox is part of the car's character :-)

AFAIK, gearbox parts can be hard to get, I certainly found this when I had to rebuild my gearbox.

I know I have a NOS second gear, in its Leyland box. If you're interested in it, email me on 1tjo-nwec@dea.spamcon.org.

Alex

Have you tried using the A-plus gear with 26 teeth?
Second gear should have 28 teeth AFAIK.

LOL Rob - I just don't want a whole load of autojumble to try and sell at midget50 - with all the things I've "thought about doing" and then changed my mind ...!

I've tried emailing you but it's bounced back.

Dave, no, haven't tried it, I didn't know the theets where different. They do have a straight cut set for spridgets, and laygears etc. I'm in need of a first gear, with all its teeth...

Alex, I might be able to help with that too if your Spridget has B-type gears... email me on the address above.

Rob, I can see you've emailed me but can't reply at the moment - will do so this evening.

James, I have no idea what's in my box... specificly that is. It's a ribcase...
I will try to take it apart soon and will mail you when I know more.
