MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gearbox rebuild/recon

Our 1275 box is jumping out of 3rd on the overun so maybe it is time for a rebuild or replacement.
Cannot go down the 5 speed route as the car is used for historic rallys and some things cannot be changed.
So does anyone know the best source of recon boxes (this one is an MGOC one and has never been to good).
Any one know who does good rebuilds in the Kent area?

The car is tuned and puts out 100BHP and is USED.

TIA

These two are the best for our gearboxes, both are used to building gearboxes for competition work:

Another vote for Hardy Engineering. Bill owns a Speedwell Sprite.

Can you still get all the gears?

One reason I went the 5 speed route, is because of crap rebuilds. I was told that some parts had to be reused as they weren't made anymore.

Hence I have a half decent 1275 rib cage sittting in my loft talking to the spiders.

Thanks for the names.
Can still get all the gears - just jumps out of 3 rd occasionally.
Lawrence - where in Kent are you - I'm in Ashford at the weekends..

Hi David, I can vouch for Ken at Klassik Trans. A pleasure to deal with, quick turn around and very reasonably priced.

Just ask for directions if you visit him as he's a little off the beaten track!!

lol. David,

I was asking generally, can you still get all the gears as spare parts for the rebuild, not can you still engage all the gears. Sorry I should have made my question clearer.

So are new gears still available for a rebuild, or is it still a case of selecting the best out of a selection of used ones?

I'm T'wells, not that far from Ashford.

Sorry I gave the impression I might be willing to sell my 1275 box. Actually I keep it for the time being as a hedge against not being able to rebuild the sierra box in the future if parts for them get scarce too.

Problem gears to get are input shaft and 3rd.

1st, 2nd, reverse and laygear are no problem apart from the money.

Taken together they are a higher availability rate than one of our 5 speeds ... though these don't wear out as readily.
Paul Walbran

I think Paul answered the question, now need to start looking for a 1275 box to get rebuilt.....

Lawrence - are you doing the Mascot run on the 16 Oct? - if so look out for a blue midget with rally gear and an OEW frog driven by my other half.

I hadn't thought of doing the run. Where can I see the details? Where does it go from and to?
