MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gearbox replacement

O.k. Looks like I have finally broken the midgets box, jumps out of third and makes nasty noises. Haven't got time to do a replacement myself so can any one recommend someone to do the whole replacement job in Kent (near ashford) and give me some idea of price?

Or Zero Exhausts 01233 822221 who did a good job for me supplying a recon box 2/3 years back

Are in Bethersden just outside Ashford.
Gavin Rowles

think they have moved Gavin - Folkstone and only do exhausts now.

If you want another box to get reconditioned to speed up the process I have a standard four-speed (which jumps out of first and reverse is beginning to do the same)under a hedge in my garden, which you are more than welcome to. I am only 12 miles from Ashford, near Faversham.
If that's any help, you can email me on crispin@hernhill.plus.com or phone on 07599 79 76 79.
Thanks to Alan Anstead and Pete Jones, I now have a lovely Type 9 fitted and have no further need of the old ribbed job.

I've just got hold of a second hand gearbox for my 1500 which I plan to replace myself... Its only a weekend job.

It has been sitting around for sometime and I'm concerned the remnants of old oil will have turned to gunk and sludge and I so i want to wash it through with paraffin or jizer or the like... but... does anyone know if there is anything that may disintegrate if I do that... things like fibre washers?

Cheers

Thanks for all the help people. Thinking about a 5 speed now as we will only be doing club events from now on and regs are not as strict.
So Alan - when are you back from the Osteopath???
