MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gearbox woes
Hi Hope someone can help. I am having trouble with reverse gear in my 1098cc midget and thought a temp solution to keep me on the road would be to bolt on a spare 1275 ribbed box I have. Would this be ok for a straight swap or would I need alot of mods to make it fit. If its not just a bolt on I will have to rethink Thanks in advance Ash |

Ash 1275 box is a straight swap for your 1098 box - change the remote housing from your old box onto the new, so the gearlever is correct. Unless it is newish, replace the clutch while the engine is out (you might as well) but definitely change the carbon thrust release bearing JB |

Are you sure its the box? I had some difficulty too engaging reverse and first. (before I converted to 5-speed) It turned out to be a hardly engaging clutch. So when you can only engage gears when the pedal is to the metal it could be time to bleed or adjust (take out the slack by checking connections and adjusting the screw at the end of the pedalbox when bled properly) the clutch. |
