MG Midget and Sprite Technical - General Electrical Question

Hi All,
MG midget Mk III 1972.
Recently fitted an alternator and this is working fine.
I wanted to fit a 12 V take off in the cockpit to power up my SatNav, so I have put in a fused line leading fromn the "live when ignition & engine on" side of the fusebox and I have used the green cable fuse position. Is this OK? or is there a better position to take power from? - the 12 V in the cabin will only ever be used for sat nav, possibly an ipod adapter occasionally and remotely possible to power my draper LED inspection lamp .
Any thoughts or suggestions - gratefully received.

Hi Colin,

I'd wire it up to the live all the time side of the fusebox. More usefull when using an inspection lamp, and you might want to set up the satnave before you start the engine.

A take off the green circuit should be fine. Once you switch off the ignition it will be dead so you can't drain the battery by inadvertently leaving something plugged in. If you want it to be live all the time (as some lighter sockets are), you will need to use the purple circuit. Whichever you use, all the items you list are low current draw so there should be no issue with overloading. Like you I fitted a cigarette lighter socket in my Midget for the very same reasons.

If you have an in-line fuse, you could power it from the unfused side of the fusebox - white if you want it powered with ignition on, brown if you want it live all the time. Particularly useful if you have a blown fuse and you want to use your inspection lamp to find it!
