MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Got an Amp-best way to wire?

OK folks, I got an amp, some speakers and my MP3 player. What's the best way to wire the amp? If I wire it straight to the battery will it drain it?

straight to the battery with appropriate fuses -- perhaps an ignition switched relay to turn the amp off when the engine is not running.
Mick - The engine is in!

How many watts? Why not use the accessories circuit (fiest click of the ignition key)?

Make sure you use the fuse thats made for it, you can buy them at any car audio shops for about $20, Its a big huge block, and the wire that runs from the battry to the amp is like 3/8" dia. you definatly dont want to cut corners and use some 20-22 gauge wire,in-line fuse esp. if you love your midget

Like anthony, the main question is how many watts/amps will determen the size fuse and wire needed.

3/8ths dia wire???

If an amp needs that then it will also require a mobile power station in a trailor behind.

It's just a 200 watt 2 channel amp with 2 6 1/2" 3 way 200 watt speakers. Amp instructions call for 8 gage wire with a 25 amp inline fuse.
Mike Taylor

Given the power of the amp I'd take the power from the battery and fit a 25A inline fuse very close to the battery.

For the remote you can use a relay and switch or take power from the accessory circuit, so when the ignition is on, the amp will turn on.

When I installed an amp in my midget I couldn't get the wiring right using a relay so I stuck a switch on the earth cable - probably not the best way of doing it but it worked ok for a few years! I don't recommend you do that btw!

I'm just going to be running my MP3 player through it.I figured if I have the amp in the trunk, with the speakers in the bulkhead between the trunk and the seat backs I could run my headphone to RCA cable under the deck carpet to come out between the seats.
Mike Taylor

Yeah I was a little freaked out by the wiring I needed for my AMP, I had to use a 50 Amp fuse block...but at 8 gauge wire your still looking at 1/4 " or more in diameter, these things soak power. I put my remote on a heavy duty switch also and ran it thur the Assocorys circuit...I mounted My amp on the bulk head in the trunk and 2) 6x9 rockford 300 amp speakers in boxes in the rear bulk head also. I want to say the speakers pluged into the amp, cant remember.
