MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Greasy disk brakes

My grease gun failed after 40 years of good labour. I bought a new pneumatic one. What a dream it is… Light and easy I only need 2 hands instead of 3 to handle it. Than I found out that the front brakes did not break as before… Grease on the brake disk. Grease came out the underside of the swivel axle pin. There is an entrance between the pin and the dust cover. I suspect the cork sealing ring. I do not trust cork rings after 5 years and this one sits there for much longer. I use TSL (tri star lube). This grease it is very persistent. I did not have to change swivel axle bushes for 120.000 km.
Can I replace the cork ring by a rubber one?
I glued some duct tape on the dust cover. Is there a better solution?
I will replace the brake pads do I have to replace the disks?

Thank you for your replies

the disc braked cars have a rubber ring with a square section at the bottom of the dust tube. its not cork. It may have split over the years.

If you clean the discs with brake cleaner thoroughly before you fit the new pads should be good to go.

Thank you Bob,
Moss and AH Spares do show the rubber ring in there diagramm. Moss number 20 has no description. AH spares has no number...
Where can I source the rubber ring?

The two seals are shown here Nos 41 & 44, although 44 is not available (from Moss) and also shown in the wrong position. It should be at the bottom of the dust tube.

If you search with the part number, you might find something.

They, MGOC and AH spares, can not deliver....only in a swivel axle pin set... Can I use standard rubber rings, I do have a lot of them in all sizes.

You can try. The correct 'O' ring is square in section and sits over the lower king pin bush. The outer dust cover (spring loaded) then holds it down sealing off the lower part of the king pin. A normal round O ring may work providing the dust cover can seal against it.

If it's the lower O ring at the bottom of the stubaxle I was going to suggest before, just find a suitably sized O ring in a hardware store selection box but you'd apparently already ordered them. Bearing suppliers usually have good stocks of them in various sizes and quantities.

If I do not have it myself, I'll buy it at the local plumber shop.

Looks like one of these - the upper O ring BTA613 - is in stock at Brown and Gammons:

Lower O ring BTA607 may be available from:

Both seem out of stock from my normal go to place for such parts - Leacy Classics.
