MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Hard top Ashley
Hello, I have an early hardtop Ashley for midget MKI. The rear screen is not available, and when it is cracked, no other solution than to replace with perspex. So I ask myself from wich car came those screens. Not GT6, not DB series, not E Type, but could it came from Ace Aceca: http://bringatrailer.com/2009/03/11/amelia-island-bound-1958-ac-aceca/ How to ask an Ace Aceca owner to mesure its rear screen? Who knows one of them? The Ashley rear screen is height: 67 cm, bottom width: 79cm, top width: 89cm. laurent |

Laurent As far as I know they where specialy made for the ashley.... |

bad news Onno. |

Onno, I'd be surprised if they were specially made. What makes you think that they were? Some potentially good news though Laurent. Eddie Brown who owns the Ashley topped K series Midget (and who posts here) is looking to replace his glass with a lighter material. I don't know if he is looking to sell the glass but I'm seeing him this evening so unless he replies here, I can ask him. |

I'm interested by this too, although I can’t help with the original question. I have the glass for mine but I’d like a lighter solution. Maybe if collectively we had a small batch of Perspex rear windows made it would be cost effective? As long as we have one glass, isn’t it possible to mould sheet Perspex to the same shape, using a hot water bath? |

Well, it's definitely not from the E-type! We bottomed that one on here a few years ago... if you can find it in the archives. |

Frontline can have them made. The quality is superb but they are not cheap. Ed Braclik has had his MGB GT done, the rear window and both sides. Even the windscreen can be done and still provide the correct saftey protection. My plan will be to change all of the windows other than the windscreen since it has now been changed to an electrically heated one. The weight saving is really substantial. Eddie. |

Mine was cut - slightly oversize - from a flat sheet of polycarb and attached with M4 s/s button head screws.

Eddie - what kind of cost were you quoted? I cant remember if your car has wind up windows, I'd be worried about scratches in the door windows. My door glasses have some vertical scratches in them now. |

RTJ- Approx £1000 to do both sides and the rear window. I have wind up windows and they would be done the same as Ed Braclik's MGB GT, ie the window winders would be dispensed with and the window then relies in a slight interference fit to hold it in any position required. I was amazed at how tough they appear to be and on Ed's car there has been no scratching of any sort. I must admit I was sceptical about this and I find it amazing that this material is so tough that it can be used in windscreens. Regards Eddie. |

Hi, Ace Aceca owner gave me the dimensions and this is not from an Aceca. I still have no idea from wich car it could came from, if it is not a special made. I have the rear window, but I was asking myself how to replace it if I brake it. Perspex could be the solution. laurent |

The Aceca ones are perspex anyhow. If you have the glass one, it is not too difficult to make a plaster mould to form perspex ones from - your new business! FRM |
