MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Hazards & Service
I recently upgraded my Sebring Rep with hazard lights.
I used a kit from Exeter based Retronics. Retronicsonline.com Retronicsltd@gmail.com The kit supplied (52 inc' postage & packing) varies slightly from that in the picture above as I shall explain. The kit was similar to the above but the push/pull switch was joined to the unit with a wired band. Everything needed, except an inline fuse, was supplied. Fitting was easy, following the instructions supplied, and would have been completed in no time except I chose to discard the crimps etc in favour of soldered Lucar terminals. Job done and a pull on the switch sets the harzards flashing as well as the light in the on/off switch. Impressed I ordered another kit for my Frogeye. In the interval, following feedback from customers, the kit had been updated. Again everything was included apart from the now two inline fuses needed. Again I discarded the crimps choosing soldered Lucar connectors. On this kit the bulb in the push/pull on/off switch does not flash when in the on position but an extra wire goes to the indicator warning light. Both cars now equipped with Hazards. I e-mailed my feedback explaining that I preferred the flashing bulb on the original kit's push/pull on/off switch. No problem! A flashing led bulb with diagrams, and instructions, on how it should be fitted into the push/pull on/off switch was sent f.o.c. Top marks for the kit and the customer service. |

Good feedback Alan. Im happy with good quality crimps but I hope you ditched the Scotchlok connectors! Nasty things IMO. |

Alan, Sounds like a great upgrade for our cars. In my opinion that would be very helpful in this land of oversize pickups and SUV's. Thanks for the link and the good review. |

Put blue bulbs in and you will get even more notice when you switch on the hazards! |

I went and ordered this kit and would like to thank Alan for recommending it. It took me a bit of time to get it all hooked up what with splicing in the fuses and crawling under the dash but it work as advertised, first try. I think that it is a worth while addition to the car. |

Good to hear of a kit that works well, supported by good supplier. But I have my doubts that flashing hazard lights are that beneficial. In the UK they are generally used by the driver to say "I am parked in a stupid place / on double yellows/ on crossing zig-zags" and please don't book me as I will be back in a jiffy. I guess if you are broken down in traffic at night they may give you that vital extra 1% chance of survival that makes all the difference. |
