MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Head Identification (Maybe)

While removing the thermostat off my midget head I noticed the following marks punched into it (see image).

I seem to remember reading in the past that some tuning companies mark them this way to identify them at a later stage.

Reads:- XRN 8P 1

Anybody help me identify this one or am I on a wild goose chase???

Thanks

Shaun

I don't know what it means, but you seem to have an A+ cylinder head.

Shaun.

Those markings look like an engine builder's or head tuners ID stamps. I'm sorry, I don'tknow who's....

Mark.

XRN Engineering, used to be my local machine shop, Bracknell just down the road from me, now near Guildford, google will find them.
David Smith

OK, so David has identified the XRN bit as probably being the machine shop.

Perhaps the '8P' bit means that it's an 8-Port conversion.

Or not.
Steve Clark

In this case not, still only 5 ports on the side....
