MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Help finding oil filter for Marina engine?
Hello, Can I please draw on the collective wisdom of the board please. I'm trying to find an oil filter which will fit a 1275cc morris marina engine which I'm currently installing into my midget. The engine number is 12G2398 and though I've tried filters purchased for the Marina 1.3, the filters won't screw onto the raised screw. Does anyone know the part number either from Halfords, or equivalent, where I can get a filter which will fit? Grateful for any help. Mike. |

I can confirm that's the correct casting number for a Marina block. Have you perhaps got a sandwich plate for oil cooler take-offs fitted? |

You need to measure the thread. The std Marina/Ital block has a different thread to the normal A Series. To confirm your filter is on the upper left of the block upside down....as opposed to the more normal lower right. i.e. like this... http://www.eatworms.me.uk/album/Midget-1380/PICT0016-1.JPG As david suggests with a sandwich plate (like this...http://www.eatworms.me.uk/album/Midget-1380/PICT0033.JPG someone could have engineered it to revert to the std Midget filter thread which has slighlly better availability |

If the Midget thread theory doesn't pan out, try getting a filter for a 1300 Morris Ital. JB |

Hi Dean, yes the filter is on the upper left upside down rather than the conventional position as with the Midget engine. Measuring the thread is my last resort, though does anyone know how to remove the threaded hollow bolt from the block? I've bought a couple of filters which I thought were for the 1300 Morris Ital but they don't seem to fit; too loose. Thanks for all the help, Mike |
