MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Help!! No lights.

Hi, So near to finishing now!!all wiring back in and connected up,have an ignition circuit working correctly, also have wipers, fan motor, and fuel pump working fine, but no lights(side or head)or panel lights, or indicators or brake lights, all these have been tested direct to a battery and work fine, all connections have been well cleaned up as have all earths,Im getting no power to the dash light switch and only to one side of the fuse box when ignition is on(i assume fusebox should be live all the time battery is connected)also no power at the voltage regulator on any terminals,Ive spent all afternoon going round in circles!!Any ideas greatly appreciated.(Pascal)Martin.

Martin do we presume you don't have a manual, or is it that you don't understand wiring diagrams?
David Smith

Could be something simple like fuse box rotated 180 deg.
The 'input' side of the box has common terminals,eg power from thick brown goes to its own and neighbour terminal.

Don't panic... It's going to be something simple.

Martin, stupid question first: spending an afternoon on your electrics is the battery still fully charged ?

I find it a little strange that you don't have no power at the voltage regulator because if the ignition switch is working correctly and is connected as per wiring diagram it get it's power from this regulator.
Is your voltage meter making good contact with the terminals ?

Since you don't have lights at all, do you have a brown/blue wire running from your light switch to the A1 terminal of the voltage regulator. The same A1 terminal that feeds your ignition switch.

I will attache some pictures of the wiring diagram but to simplify it a little most of the stuff thats irrilevant is left out.
I will start with the diagram from the parking/ side lamps and panellamps

The diagram from the headlights and brakelights

The diagram of the indicators and heatermotor

And finally the complete diagram. I know it's easier to sit behind your desk and show some pictures than lying upside down under a dashboard trying to understand your electrics but still hope this helps a little.

Hi everyone(especially Pascal)I found the problem and cant believe i was so stupid!!!I had the brown wire and the white and red wire round the wrong way at the starter solenoid,(so no power to the regulator or fusebox) everything working great now, out for a few beers tonight!!!!!just the dash to go back, new trim to fit and seats and hood, then its MOT time, its only taken me 7 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!Once again thanks for all the help.Martin.
