MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Help please: Oil Cooler fitting

Hi everyone,
We've been invited to go to a Ferrari Charity event in early June, to race....no, sorry to drive (wife says,)around the track with all proceeds from the day, going to fight cancer.

Please note that the 1500 midget was never exported to France and so parts aren't that readily available here.

I've bought an oil cooler, but there's no adapter plate for the oil filter, so my questions are:

1) Is there an alternative (easy) way to fit the cooler, without connecting thru' the oil filter.

2) Has anyone got an adapter plate that they no longer require and are willing to sell ?

This should be quite an event with a load of really fast / expensive cars and our Midget.

Try Think automotive which is Mocal.

I also installed a Mocal 10Row oil cooler on my 1500 and temperature dropped when cruising at 60Mph and more... An oil cooler is mandatory on a 1500 midget especially when cruising on a highway.

I fitted a ten row oil cooler on my 1500, works very well. Go for the sandwich plate with the built in thremostatm for better control.

Thanks Brad, Gerrit & I snowdon.
I've now got an adapter plate being sent to me, which brings me to the next question, for anyone thats already fitted a cooler.
Is there a "best place" to stick it (for want of a better word).
Only physically possible suggestions please.

1500 '78 - Now finally on French plates.
Graham

Graham,

best place is just in front of the radiator. So leave no place between your oil cooler and your radiator. This will improve air flow through both the radiator and the oil cooler. This is normally also instructed by Mocal.

cheers

while we're at it, lets discuss wether an oil thermostat is needed, and how to install the vaious types, perhaps even when one knows one needs to replace said thermostat.
S.A. Jones

I say yes, a thermostat is needed because cold oil is no good for your engine. Best temp is (IIRC) 90 to 110 C(elcius).
