MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Heritage LHD Midget for sale

My neighbour is looking to sell his midget. It's the one I built from a Heritage shell four years ago, and it's hardly been used.

The car is in Zürich. it’s not a typical Midget - It is like new everywhere, even to having all the decals, 500km since completion, so the shakedown is done. Nothing at all anywhere has been bodged. Only shakedown faults: fuel pump power wire fell off, flasher relay failed, and regulator failed (cheap unit since replaced with OEM Lucas recon unit from AES).

It is red, on new chromed wires with new hubs, new painted spare.

Trim - New chrome everything bought 20 years ago while the quality was still good.

Engine has Peter Burgess lead free head, new seals and gaskets all round, oil pressure is strong compression 135-140 on all cylinders and it runs like a sewing machine at 170F up mountain passes and on the flat. Carbs rebuilt with new jets and gaskets.

Gearbox has been rebuilt: new laygear and shaft, bearings, seals and synchros, gears all operate without graunches.

Suspension: all new at the rear, new wishbones and new everything up front including correct NOS FWB set.

Brake system is all new (except handbrake lever, which is like new) with silicon fluid and zero leaks. Stops straight and short.

Wiring and all electrics: new or as new, everything as original, everything works, no cable ties (anywhere).

Rear axle is correct WW unit. Powder coated, all new seals and bearings. new WW halfshafts

Exhaust, new. The stickers still haven’t burned off.

Weather equipment, complete set and again all new. Tonneau, Hood and hood cover.

Trim, all new

All external rubbers new (but not so new that the stuff is already starting to perish. Much came out of Leyland marked packaging.)

The then owner bought the shell 20 years ago, had it sprayed and did almost nothing else except buy parts and a little assembly. It came to me on a trolley and in a lot of boxes, and it was assembled at no cost spared for the current owner.

The negatives.

The horn push is unrestored because NLA and it is 50 years old and something had to have patina. And all the lock barrels have different keys. A clunk comes from a screwdriver I lost down behind the wing while setting the carbs last week (will be retrieved!) The steering wheel is original, and shows marks from usage.

Basically it’s a pretty much a new car. The owner is selling because he’s now divorced and wants shot of the memories.

You can see from the photos which were taken in the last days of the assembly that it is nicer than your average bear.

Please call me on +41763133862 if you are interested and have sufficient funds, no part-ex unless its a Porsche.... (he's German).

The correct air hose was fitted after this photo

and it is as good underneath as on top. The stripes are reflections from the clean painted floor
