MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Heritage Shells

Hi
Assuming the owner doesn't know(!), whats the best way to identify a heritage shell?
Obviously condition is usually a give away, but with some reshells getting a bit long in the tooth now, how can you quickly and easily differentiate a rebuild from a reshell?
I can't believe I'm asking this!
Thanks.

Hmmm, difficult one.

I know that a lot of the Heritage shells that I've seen had different wiring loom clips to the originals.

The originals were 'solid' strips of steel, whereas the Heritage clips had no middle to them, if that makes sense?

the hertige shells varied over the years, IIRC the early ones covered a few different model years and had extra or different places for captive nuts and holes ect.

I think my previous Spridget was an early Heritage (SWA)

my present one is RWA and has extra holes - this was covered in a recent thread

probably best to ask Heritage

For a chrome bumper car - a Heritage shell has as I understand it the floor pan from a 1500 - so you get the very useful additional hole in the pan at the front of the propshaft.
Was intended to give access for bolting up the front of the prop on 1500's.

Seem to remember fittings for both types of bonnet stays, bonnets have the buffers (spiral rubber things)from later cars etc.

Well mine does.

isnt there a stamp tag showing a number, presumeably a serial or production number ? i would have to check on mine and get back to you . . .now i have mentioned it, i think its on the rear wheel arch area but i would have to check

A lot of replacement parts over the years were made to fit all models.

I had a midget back in the '80s which had fittings for both types of bonnet prop.

If the floorpan has been replaced during the last 15 years, it will likely have the access hole for the front prop joint.

As P Bentley said, there was a tag somewhere, although it isn't necessarily always left on.
