MG Midget and Sprite Technical - HIF Manifold FAO John Payne
John. You asked for a photo of my manifold setup with the K&N to see how much clearance there is when using the Maniflow inlet manifold. As you can see, there's not much clearance at the bottom edge of the filter... |

Graeme, if you wanted you could have silicone coolant hoses in red (or green or orange or different blacks) - http://www.classicsiliconehoses.com/product-options/ |

Nigel. Those sets are awfully expensive. Daniel S of this parish was much better value a few years ago :-) |

Graeme, that was a few years ago though, he'd need a number of buyers to commission more sets I was more thinking of colour coordination or contrast for your engine bay cosmetics, you could also have a choice of colours with a certain good manufacturer of HT lead sets and choice of wire cable covers you could go green to match the carb gaskets :) |

Thanks for that Graeme, very shiny! Looks like there's easily enough clearance for mine, I've got cut down inner wings (and there're removevable) so should be ok even if I wanted to try a thicker spacer on the carb. I've got a set of Daniel's silicone hoses and strangely I was only thinking yesterday what a good buy they were! Cheers Graeme, I'll have to see if I can get round to trying one and comparing it to the Metro. |

Why not use a tapered filter, then there would be no problem at all with clearance at the inner wing. They exist with an offset too for the HIF44, which brings the filter up a little more so the top edge is more or less level with the dashpot piston cap. If the offset is too much a standard fitting will solve the clearance issue. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/carburettor-bolt-on-filters/kn-filters-su-carburettor-filter |

Same view with a Titan. I ordered the filter to fit the gap....you can get slimmer filters. (I also had to re drill the mounting holes in the back plate to keep the bolt heads and logo horizontal, couldn't live with them at an angle !) |

Dom, reason being is that I will probably be fitting a larger filter so wanted to be sure there was enough room. Those cone filters aren't supposed to be very good if I remember correctly. |

John I have a cone filter on my HIF equipped Judson MGA, and it copes fine, so fine that the exhaust is too loud because of the extra exhaust gas throughput it brings. Dominic |
