MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Hood frame straps
Hi all, just a silly one really!! My 1972 midget had two "rubberised" straps that were riveted across one of the hood frame spars. I'm just restoring a '67 Sprite and it's folding hood - which is pretty much identical has been pre drilled for only 1. I'm just making a strap up out of some doubled up leatherette but a: why different? and b: does anyone know what their purpose is? bet someone out there can enlighten me ;0) - Neal |

Probably to stop the hoodframe from deforming under the tension of the hood, although they do produce a couple of visible bumps in the vinyl ISTR. |

IIRC they help the frame unfold as the rail is picked up and moved forward. One of my straps has gone flabby and vibrates against the roof at high speeds; does anyone make a replacement? A |

Rubberised webbing like this is sold by furniture upholstery shops. Or I think Woolies would probably stock it: http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/ |

Thanks for your help chaps - I got it wrong too - my '72 Midge has three straps!! and they are visible too - even through a double duck hood! I'm going to leave the strap off and crack on with fitting my hood - can always add one later if needed - cheers all |
