MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Hot starting problem
I have a 1967 midget, fully restored 4 years ago and fitted with a 1380 cc engine. It starts from cold perfectly and runs super but switch off and leave for a few minutes on a warm day and it will not start. Pouring cold water over the carbs and coil get it going again, sometimes with a misfire for a few minutes. Engine temp is just below normal. Plugs are the right colour after a run. I suspect either a fuel vapour lock or a dodgy coil. Anyone have any suggestions? |

Hello, Do you have a heatshield between the carbs and engine? It sounds like a "vapour lock" this means: when engine is hot the feul inside the carbs vapourises and no fuel is entering the cillinders. there must be a sort of alluminum wafel-plate between the carbs and inlet-manifold. Second option is that your contactpoints are worn, I've had that oncd with a mini. I renewed my contact points and my warm start problem was over. I hope this was helpfull Goodluck |

I have the heatshield you describe in place. The points are fairly new but I will check again in the morning. Thanks for the advice |
