MG Midget and Sprite Technical - How dry is your engine bay?

I get a lot of water influx at the rear corners of the bonnet - not great as it is right above my new wiring module and works it's way down into the footwell.

Anyone else have the same problem - I assume I have to dress the little channels that sit under the wing mounting bolts a bit better?
L McInally

Gday so the water is simply flooding over the top of the lip and into the engine bay? If you fit a rubber seal to stop this you'll also stop hot air escaping, a case of damned if you do etc. Sorry mate, I suspect no one else has an answer hence the lack of replies.

OK, I will reply from a rain sodden location in the north of England. Mine leaked there. I sealed the overlap of the drainage gutters where the wing and scuttle join and are bolted through with silicone sealer. But there was a bit of a low gap in the edge of the channel which I built up with a small bit of weld. You could stick something on with epoxy resin to do the same.

It stopped water running onto the electrics, the footwell top and also from collecting around the master cylinders and dripping down via the pedal box onto my feet!

Have to say, I've never had this problem. It depends on how well the wings are fitted in the corners, and as Guys says, if the rain channels are sealed. Not only where the body channel meets the wing in the corner, but also make sure the channel is seal against the body. I rinse my Sprite off with a hose on full, and don't get water in the engine bay. So you can definitely solve this.

Mine gets used as a day car (except last week grrr - ) and so far no water this year in anywhere except a bit of a leak above the windscreen when its really bad downpour. Mine has been re-sprayed at least 3 times with celly and the build up of paint in the joints around the engine bay has sealed all joints so no worries. Channels kept clear by yours truly and all holes have the appropriate bump stops and things attached so no leaks through those either.
