MG Midget and Sprite Technical - How much paint for a respray
Hi, I am going to respray my car myself soon but would like to know how much cellulose paint, primer and thinner I should get. One company said 2.5lts of colour 2.5lts of primer and 5lts of thinners. Then another company said 5lts of all 3. Thing is I don't want to run out of primer and colour but then I don't want to buy loads and waste it. How much primer, colour and thinners have you lot bought when you did your own? |

I suppose it kind of depends on how many coats you want, how good you are, and the type of equipement you use. I'd buy 10 ltrs of thinners. Then you have Plenty for thinning -- 5ltrs of anti bloom, and 5ltrs of the cheapest thinners for cleaning. for me, 2.5 ltrs of primer and 2.5 of colour is plenty. |

As Lawrence says, it depends on the type of finish you're trying to attain. Whether you're painting a bare shell inside and out, or just refreshing the paint on the outside. I've repainted the outside of a midget with one litre of celly. It was getting a bit thin by the last panel, though ;o) |

If your doing the entire car and not just the outside In the states we plan on 1 gal of paint, the the rest products are configured from that. Prop |

are you buying colour by code so you can get more of exactly the same mix? if not, then get 'spare' you never know when you might need it |
