MG Midget and Sprite Technical - How NOT to remove the kingpin castle nut
Some bonehead (not me) at a professional shop decided to remove the kingpin castle nut on a 1979 MG midget using an impact gun. This totaled the kingpin. Those of us who have worked on the front suspension know exactly what that means. It was very hard not to laugh watching these because for months they have refused my help one way or another (also because I have done these enough times to know what a world of hurt he is getting into). Anyway, if you haven't replaced your kingpins yet, its not easy. Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR_GvOWGtjM Part 2 (it gets worse) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWlOWku8r50 |

Ha Ha Ha Ha! Are those guys supposed to be pros. Who's the guy with the cowboy hat (very appropriate) straight from Central casting? Thanks S.A. for posting that. It made my day. Bernie. |

OMG... thOOse idiots!!! I remember this dim wit light bulb crew, they came on the scene with "waynes midget" last november. There trying to get national recognition to have a TV show on a cable network...there hook is they film every car as they work on it so you can see the real world how mechanics happen ... (and the proper way to make the repair) ...HAHAHA, Yeah uh huh sure! Apperantly these idiots are actuall specialised vintage mustang guys and are actually good at that area, but the bottom fell out and so they had to expand and will take on anything that rolls thur the door So apperantly this adventure still continues 5 months later....so sad. I think this idiot crew could make a great cable tv car show....they bring in a car, and unbeknownst to the owner there going to destroy the car with how not to repair and modify a car, and to see the owners reaction at the revile, then give the owners.... A NEW CAR, at the end of the show. Prop |

They are so good I'm going to fly them over and get them to remove those plugs from my block where the 10th and 11th stud holes should be! |

In part 2 I see no cracks...unless he is thinking the grease channels are giant cracks in the bush? Can't wait to see his face when he gets the cotter pin out the lower trunnion and then needs to remove it out the spring pan...ha ha ha. |
Roadwarrior |
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the grease channels are the "cracks" he's talking about |

MG MEDICS??!! MG cocks. |
Steve Clark |
Yup. The grease channels were referred to as cracks and I think he was trying to drive the cotter pin the wrong way through the bottom fulcrum. No wonder he thought he needed a drill. Is this a real car show/tutorial, or just a spoof video? "British cars can be a pain in the butt". Yes, just as any car can be , especially if you are completely clueless to start with. |

Eureka!, The new Top Gear crew! |

Sadly, bernie, its real. They work mostly on mustangs but they are branching out into MG midgets, VW buses, and half a dozen other train wrecks. |

I don't mind them learning on the job, I'm sure we've all made mistakes with unfamiliar cars but to make a video and then blame the car... well. I agree with comments above that the grease channels look fine and the cotter pin was being driven from the wrong direction. My first Midget front suspension strip was recent and I spend a coffee and cigarette looking at the exploded diagram and it's all pretty clear - but if I did not have a workshop manual I might have made the same mistakes. But I would not have made a video as an 'expert'.. we live in odd times with all this instant media. |

I also worry about the Mustangs they've done Like bl-ody hell what are they doing in business-- Work experience kids here do better work than that or they don't look like getting a job I really worry about them coming the other way on the road willy |

Just watched it again Doesn't get any better does it ???/ TA TA for now |

Hmmm.... Thats going to be expensive and a lot of work for something that doesnt seem to have needed to be done in the first place. I guess we have all been there at some time in our lives.....over are heads with out a clue and no end in site! Hilarious! Ive got to get a Cowboy hat....I notice its white. Doesnt that represent the good guys! |

Have you noticed in clip 2 it looks like the coil spring is still in place How has it not jumped out and smacked him one yet. Good clips S.A did make me chuckle. |

A few months ago someone (I think it might have been Prop) posted a link to these guy’s videos when they first got the car in. They were starting the tear down to assess it for its needs. I have to observe that in this front-suspension video, they look quite competent and professional in comparison to the earlier videos! Charley |
