MG Midget and Sprite Technical - how to find bondo
all you have to do is be pounding on the suspension to get the tie rod links off to install the right hand drive steering rack and it will just fall on your head! Was not going to use that fender anyway, its from an early midget. Stefan ![]()

From what I understand the car was bought in Georgia and sat there from about 1982 to about 2000 when it was bought by a guy in Texas who did some body work, got to the wiring and then quit, it sat and then later his brother sold it on ebay which is where I came in. Being an electrical person I got the car running in about 5 minutes and then started working on my turbo project.

Stephan, You do realize that the proper technique for the removal of a TRE consists of loosening the nut of the TRE a few turns, then employing a good lump hammer of 2 or 3 pounds in weight to strike the edge of the steering arm, in line with the arm, in such a way as to temporarily deform the cone of the hole for the TRE just enough to cause it to drop out. Once you have acquired the knack, one or two smart blows will suffice. David "Never use force, just get a bigger hammer" Lieb

David, I have taken several TREs apart and my room mate that is an ASE certified undercar specialist and he repairs suspension for a living. He worked on it a bit and said he had never seen one seized that bad, we removed the link and TRE from the suspension and are going to use a press or an anvil later today.

Prop What I have figured out is the car sometime in 1982 was damaged on the front right side. It looks like the fender was destroyed and replaced but under the fender there is no other damage or indication of an bending so it must have been only body damage to the fender. What ever the case this damage took the car off the road and was garaged from 1982 until 2000 when it was sold the the guy who did body work. He replaced the fender with the dented one from an earlier car and repaired it with a ton of bondo. The right fender is obviously not original and the left fender had never been removed since it was build in September of 1974 because the factory seals (rubbery silicone glue) were still on the securing bolts in the foot well. The rest of the car appears to be original with a thick coat of rattle can yellow which may have trapped some water which i will discover when I tear the car apart after I have the turbo build completed and then am worried about making the body look nice. Look where the steering wheel is now! Stefan ![]()

Next thing we know, you will be posting a photo of the steering wheel mysteriously suspended in mid air with no visible means of support. David "Gonna get to work one of these days..." Lieb

Isolated thunderstorms in the evening that may produce small hail. Snow level 500 feet or less. Snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches. Lows around 30. West wind 15 to 25 mph decreasing late. Gusts to 45 mph in the evening especially higher elevations. and you wonder why I am moving to Florida! Stefan |
