MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Identifying wings

think it's been done before but can't find it in archive - does anyone know the measurements between sidelight and headlight holes that distinguish thick and thin chrome bumper wings please?
David Smith

David, mine is a '72 round wheel arch with what I believe to be the thin chrome bumper and the gap is 3". I assume the thicker chrome bumper is like the Frogeye style I think this is the smaller gap 2.25" but not sure on that gap size. There was a good n/s wing in last months MGOC mag but it was the wrong gap for mine! Chris
Chris Sargeant

thanks Chris, just to be sure, is that the gap between the chrome trims of the light fittings or measured on a bare wing?
David Smith

bump - anyone have the exact measurements please?
David Smith

David,

My rwa heritage is 45-50mm between the chrome head/sidelight trims.

Hope this helps.

Richard.

David please stop that bumping around, you'll wake me up.

I just went down to the garage just for you

should have taken a ruler, couldnt find one

BUT the distance between Lara's headlamp rim (at the wing body) and the chrome sidelight rim is near enough an inch

measured with Elizebethan accuracy by extending two finge (touching, not as in a certain gesture) into the space between them

not an accurate measure and sorry about that but should help you work out which wings you need / are looking at coupled with Chris's posting

Bill

I have a bare, early wing in the garage, I will endeavour to measure it tomorrow...errr, later today!

Just measured a new fender for Mk I midget. 2 1/4 inch opening to opening.
J Bubela

many thanks Chris, Richard, Bill, & JB - so it's irrefutably 2.25" for the early ones and 3" for the late thin bumpers, measured on the metal. Chris if you still need a wing, I have a pair of the late type (email me on midget1380 at btinternet dotcom)
