MG Midget and Sprite Technical - ignition key barrel stuck in
Took the key out of the ignition today, I dont think it could have turned all the way as I cant get the key back in. The centre of the barrel is still depressed, key will only go a way in. Managed to get it off to get her home. Is this fixable? |

got it turning, but key wont go all the way in & you can turn it with anything (spoon is what i used!) loathe to fit it back to the car |

if you can get the key in you can remove an ignition barrel from most steering locks quite easily by-- first; disconnect the earth second; turn the key to "ON" third; find a shiny round peg within the MAZAC lock body fourth; push in the pin with a small screwdriver fifth; withdraw the entire barel and key by pulling outwards sixth; have another go if the first time didn't do it if the key and barrel are so bad you should try for a new lock set, maybe Daniel has some advice about that if I am interpreting another thread properly Good luck Ben finding the pushpeg can be interesting and exciting requiring a small mirror and a good mattress to lie on as you peer into the depths of the column and lock with a torch the peg will be near the lock barrel as it operates against the lock barrel inside the casting I'm sorry I can't do this as "midget Specific" but I never had to do this for a Midget, all this stuff is generic BMC / Leyland experience based. |
