MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Ignition timing adjustment query
The micrometer adjuster on the vacuum advance is worn and no longer "clicks". Does anyone know how many clicks there are to a complete turn of the adjustment nut? Knowing that, I could mark the nut so I can reliably return it to its original setting when adjusting. The Leyland Workshop manual says approx 55 clicks to each graduation on the adjusting spindle, so I could work it out with the distributor removed, but I don't want to do that and disturb the basic timing setting. The car is a Mk3 midget with mildly tuned 1275 engine. Can anyone help? |

From what I remember, there are 55 clicks in total, 11 clicks per degree, giving a total adjustment range of 5 degrees. I'm not sure what it is that you're trying to achieve. |

Dave Thanks for the information. I already knew that, but it has set me thinking that if I mark the present position, then fully retard the timing nut and count the revolutions to full advance, i.e. 5 degrees, I will have the information I need. Problem solved, so thanks for the nudge in the right direction. |
