MG Midget and Sprite Technical - I'm Gonna Bounce Up and Down on My Spring
I mentioned earlier that I was planning to rebuild a broken rear spring on my midget, and I finally got around to it the week before last, using a leaf from a donor spring. The fix went very well, and I found to my relief that the rebound clips weren't hard to install. I still need to do the other spring (so they match), and will try to take some pics of that one. In the meantime, it's great to have the car back on the road! -:G:- |

Great news gryf....3 weeks and counting to the st louis alll british classic It really does make driving vary pleasurable when its been off the road for so long How long was it off road ??? Long before midget 50 im sure Looking forward to the pics when you do the other side Just curious....do you need to do the otherside, or is it that noticeable Prop |

Onno - I ordered the clips from Eaton Springs in Detroit: http://www.eatonsprings.com/tipinsertsreboundclipsubolts.html Although that page shows rebound clips, note that the pre-formed ones only go down to 1-3/4" wide. The Midget springs are 1-1/2", so they sent a different clip that's essentially a flat strip with a tab at one end, and the rest is up to you. As mentioned, though, I figured out a way to do it that made the process easier than expected. Prop - the spring broke back in late spring/early summer, and the car was either parked or on jackstands since. As for the other side, I suppose I don't NEED to do it, but I want to anyway so that springing matches from side to side. The side I fixed now has a main leaf from a 1275 spring - which worked great - but I want to have the same thing on the other side as well. Plus, I cleaned up and painted the repaired spring, along with fitting plastic liners between the leaves. -:G:- |
