MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Inlet manifold heater pipe
Heater pipe in inlet manifold is rusted off at radiator end. A small stump (too small for clip to grip) remains. Any suggestions how to use small stump or a get round problem are appreciated. As I understand it this pipe does not come out of the ally casting. Temporary copper bypass pipe in place at the moment so no worries re: using the car next week when new fuel pump arrives. For those of you following my getting it going reliably escapades the heater system has been appart and flushed again. Lots more rust came out of heater piping and heater which is still on car. When the last heater retaining screw has been obliterated (all the heads rusted and they are self tappers so drill sharpening is a major industry for these 3 simple screws) the heater will be removed and further flushed or the matrix replaced. Tomorrow. |

You are definitely running the range of experiences Dave! Like me, do you ever wonder when it will end? Probably never I suspect! I'm sure someone will have sorted that rusted pipe problem - I think it is quite common as a lot of second hand ones are sold with some warning comment about rust in the pipe. Is it galleried inside or just a straight pass through? |

There is a guy on ebay that refurbishes inlet manifolds and puts in a new heater pipe. Or you can buy them as a totally separate item from Moss and probably various others. Malc. |

now you're probably seeing why I suggest doing a full 36k-mile service check up as soon as you can after getting (recommissioning) the car - I understand it isn't always possible to do some or all of the work at the very start but the more you can do the less you'll have to repeat doing some of the work see the JT vid he doesn't give up on matrix (or batteries), unless the matrix has had long periods of of not containing coolant in good condition then it should clean up and anyway the spare might be in worse condition if you haven't already checked it (sorry can't remember) when the matrix is fully cleaned inside and out and both seals checked/renewed if you don't get a bit more heat into the cabin I'll accept all the moans you can give me as you've found just using the car frequently is a big help along with full and proper regular servicing, maintenance and repairs to making the car run better and be more reliable and even more fun to drive you'll be advise Dom soon, he's yet to start :) |
