MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Installing my new soft top
Finally had a nice day today, so I dug my new soft top out of the basement where it had spent the winter, and was able to get the rear edge installation completed. I can't finish the job until we have a good warm day so I can park in the sun and stretch the top properly. But at least it was nice to get the first part of the job over with. >>> The photos that were playing are looking good <<< Were the pictures very slow to load for you too? Appears that Flickr's servers are bogging down for some reason. -:G:- |

Something that I noticed on my midgets soft top is that the screws in the strip on the back that holds it down get rusted out pretty good. Stainless would be great, but whoever put mine on didnt think of that. So now mine are all rusted out and it is going to be very hard to get the dry rotted, ripped, nasty old rag top off. Something that I thought of to solve that problem would be to get some extra top parts of the snaps and put them over the snaps for the toneau cover when you have the top up. This would keep most of the water out and also cover up those screw that you were worried about. Just something I noticed. Your top is really nice. What kind is it? Seth |

Take a knife to it - then spray piles of WD40 and some gentle persuasion might go some! Actually, I'm thinking that there are general problems today - so it could be my broadband - photos weren't working on several websites and I couldn't upload a video earlier either ...... |

>>> Your top is really nice. What kind is it? <<< Prestige Auto Trim: http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/usa/usa/tops/midget3_hoods.htm Nice stuff alright, and the prices are definitely reasonable compared to the usual suppliers. -:G:- |

seth, the screws on my original top were the same, rusty. when i replaced the top i pu tin stainless instead. they weren't so bad that i couldn;t get them out though. better check, if the screws are rusty, it's a good bet the metal around them (under the softtop fabric) is getting it too. if you are on a budget, you could also check JC Whitney. I got my new top (made by Crown) from them. that was about 10 years ago, but at the time it was cheaper than any other supplier i checked. |

P.S. Gryf, Looking really nice, the tan top on a black car is a great combination! I think my next top will have a zip rear window! |
