MG Midget and Sprite Technical - ITG Air filters
Hi all, ( 1972 Mk 3 midget 1275 standard engine) Has anyone fitted an ITG Dual air filter to their twin SU Midget, and if so, what base plate size did they use? Are ITG filters OK in use? Cheers Colin |

Colin,
different people will have different preferences and opinions, mine from having a Piper foam filter on a different car is to avoid foam filters. I didn't like the cleaning and particularly recharging spray on the Piper filter. Though, I've no idea if the ITG cleaning and recharging products differ from the Piper ones and by how much. I've cleaned and recharged a few K&N filters over the years and find those easier (though I did at least once over-oil them by trying for the as-new-look) and the cleaning and recharging lasts a very long time. I prefer the fit 'n' forget the K&Ns offer. I did notice the installation instructions given by Merlin - "ITG recommend fitting the tallest filter element possible, though a gap of 1/2" (13mm) average must be left over the top of the element for air to circulate. If using rampipes, there must be an absolute minimum gap of 3/4" (19mm) or preferably 1 1/4" (32mm) between the end of the pipe and the underside of the top of the filter." http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/s/itg-air-filters/itg-megaflow-airfilters/air-filters |

ETA: Note for 1500s really - "Filter breathes through front panel". And note last paragraph on second page of pdf. - http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/files/transfer/technical/doc/jc40_specification_sheet.pdf |
