MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Jets sticking down

Hope this post will help others out there who might have had the same problem. My sons 1500 midget has suffered from a sticking carb jet since I replaced the wax type jets for the normal plain type. When I changed the jets the motor was out and the carbs where stripped and thoroughly cleaned and overhauled, the manifold was matched to the carbs and head, along with a 4 branch exhaust being fitted. I modified the exhaust so that both inlet and exhaust manifolds could be mounted to each other thus making it possible to match all the ports accuratley and to be able to mount the manifolds correctly to the head. So you see I have gone to some lenghts to get things as right as poss, so this sticking jet was some what of an annoyance to say the least! On more than one occasion my son came home with the rear jet fully down and the car on 2 cyls coughing and sluttering like a dying asthmatic, several attemps to fix the problem prooved unsuccesfull.The choke cable is free, the linkages are free and clean, oil and WD40 did not help, even an extra spring on the linkage did not seem to help. But at last, after 2 hours outside tonight I have found a temporary repair and the culprit, Yeah!! The culprit seems to be the plastic pipe that feeds fuel from the float chamber to the jet, its slightly to long and is putting a small but significant amount of sideways pressure on the jet causing it to stick. The quick remedy- a good old fashioned elastic band around the float chamber and the jet and, hey presto, the bloody thing is perfect!! Not a permanent fix I know,but it will do till the weekend and then the feed pipe will have to be modded.
