Yes, but it was a very long time ago.

I also know someone who once bought an A35 race engine from them. It wasn't very good, putting it politely.

Again, that was 20+ years ago, so they may be different these days.

Why do you ask?
Dave O'Neill2

Vizard partnered with them for a brief moment in time long ago....he mentioned them by name in his yellow bible

Was that Jonspeed or Janspeed?

I bought a Metro 'rally' engine from them about 18 years ago. It was a proper bodge up and put me off ever buying an engine off a so called expert again.

Got my head rebuilt by them a few months back. Looked ok and seems to be running fine.

HI Alan

Not direct experience of them, but they seem to have mixed reception for engine builds on Mini Forums. Funnily enough in the 1980s when I was fixing Minis there were similar mixed views - they used to advertise a lot in Cars and Car Conversions and their rebuild/conversion kit prices were very keenly priced if I remember well.

Do you want engine bits, machining or a rebuild? You could always go and have a look to check out the quality.

I'd be tempted either to go to established racing/rally tuners such as Slark (former BMC works engine builder) or Peter Burgess who have customer engines competing regularly in Mini and midget circuit racing or historic rallying. Switfune too.

The alternative would be build an engine yourself from good quality bits using an example build sheet from Vizard's book. e.g. 1275cc bored to 1293, improved head, decent bottom end bolts and centre main strap, Aldon distributor matched to a suitable cam etc. And find a good machine shop, or use one of the engine builders for machining.

Must make a mention of MED in Leicester for competition engine builds; I've had 2 and they were excellent and good value. They also do Richard Perry's engines and he goes well enough.

Also worth thinking about Bill Richards Racing in Ashford
