Oh dear. My "failed experiment with veg. oil" usually results in nothing more catastrophic than a quick trip to the Chinese for a takeaway. |
Steve Clark |
you have to read it again to work out which hole he put the veg oil in... |
Will Munns |
The intercooler pipe looks like it's held together with tape, anyway! |
Dave O'Neill 2 |
it is an old engine though 225000 was it? cant remember but way over 200k miles Prolly time for another anyway and everyone veg. oil and HDI engines is a tried and tested NO NO "eff"ervesses the HD pump toute suite |
Bill |
So why has it lunched the turbo? |
Dave O'Neill 2 |
wrong oil in sump perhaps??? Oi dint know wot I were a doin' of guvner and maybe poor air passage by the intercooler as well with the hose crushed and taped together but I suspect the veg oil wasnt up to LUBING the hottest bearings in the far frozen north... Might be worth a couple of hundred to buy it as an investment, sort the lump and sell on for 8 or 8 and a half Gs I doubt if he has lunched the HD pump yet, if it runs but is noisy I wonder how much the offer refused was for? |
Bill |
Veg oil in the sump is my guess to why the turbo died, that and "before loss of oil pressure" hints to me he didn't try running the engine on veg oil so much as in veg oil - duh |
Will Munns |
+ I think that being a high mileage engine it just up and failed.. If you check his other auction you find a TAXI-METER. This sounds like a clapped out vehicle looking for a place to die peacefully. Sandy |

Even with a replacement engine an 02 plate high mileage Citroen (that has been used as a taxi?) is going to be no where near £8K. It would be lucky to get half that figure! Guy |

Why Veggie oil in the sump???, veggie oil is alot more expensive then cheap motor oil, and they do make a 5w20 motor oil...which is super thin. I understand it as an alt. fuel....But thats deisel, If Im not mistaken Im lost as to why the guy did what he did, esp. putting that much money and time into it, then doing the veggie oil trick Must have been an addiction to the smell of burning french fries prop |

Its a bl**dy Citroen!!! Burn it! Destroy this creation of Satan!!! |
Arie de Best |
Arie on the nail as so often before and no sheep! Prop, that is a diesel car HDi is High Pressure Diesel Electronically Injected The pump tolerances are so fine that using any other fuel than "proper" diesel will lunch the pumps A small amount of petrol may be OK by accident if stopped within seconds of refilling (the usual mishap with these things) but cooking oil suggests that he had a deal with a local fast food supplier for used chip oil (Fries!) The HDI pumps cost a couple of thousand pounds over here and the entire system needs purging if misfuelled. Not a Warranty Replacement even on new cars... Sounds as if this fellow didn't know squat but after listening to other taxi drivers late at night while waiting for the nightclubs to empty, thought he had a good idea... He didn't |
Bill |
Thanks Bill, That makes a little more scence... My favorite idoit modification story of all time still has to be the idiot, that decided to port and polish his clyinder head, so he got 50LBs of fine grain sand, took the air filters off, fired up the car and started shoving sand into the air intake...I dont know if that really happened ... But I laugh everytime I think about it. Sorta goes hand in hand with the lost cat advert of a lost and found street sign, that was actually a possium prop |
