MG Midget and Sprite Technical - K-series conversion MGWS
Hi guys, Here are some pictures of the ongoing K-series conversion at the MGworkshop. This is an engine wich came from a Lotus, and as you can see that still wasn't enough power so there are some performance improvements installed like a piper camshaft and throttle bodies. |

There is even a working heater in there, with the foot blowers (or whatyemecallit) working. Bit fuzzy picture. |
Alex G Matla |
And with that power you'll need to stop sometimes... Front |
Alex G Matla |
And rear...
|
Alex G Matla |
Ah I see the Ecu has moved again |
Onno Könemann |
Alex Any info on the rear brake kit, and does it have a handbrake ? |
Alex Sturgeon |
Try VW polp rear calipers, still has a mech h/brake Howie. |
Howard Wright |
The rear handbrake is integrated in the hydraulic system. As you can see on the picture there are two master brake cylinders, front and rear. In the rear brake line is a push button hydraulic valve. You simply press the pedal and then the button, release the pedal and the rear brakes keep engaged. The braking sysytem comes from peter may I believe, the handbrake valve I don't know. |

Looks good!!! I thought when you guys talked about the belhhousing not fitting the project wasnt that far yet. The new Frontline cooling pipe, rhd(so cable is probably safe):) and wrapped exhaust(very good!). If the ECU is replaced i would replace it again. Its so small you hide it practacly everywhere. How come rhd K's look to have more room available at the bulkhead? I couldnt handle (space-wise) an old heater if i wanted to. Would love to see and hear this K alive! The virus is spreading, slowly in holland but spreading!!! |

Thijs did some nifty heater-mounting-place re-building so that it all fits and still have warm feet in winter. unlike the half-#ss%d job they did in the UK on the other one. they just hauled an angle grinder trough the engine bay to make room. And this ECU isn't that small, it's in the front in this picture. |
Alex G Matla |
Thats the same as i have but its smaller then the original rover unit. I had to redo my heatershelf too as it was so badly done. They sometimes do things very "creatively" ahum-ahum in the UK. They even have a name for those people: bodgers! LOL Image: underside of heatertray done in the UK... why cut it out and weld it properly if you can clue it and put lots of bodysealer over it, not that its very constructive part anyway... :( |
Arie de Best |
Maybe if they had done the heatertray when the engine was out it wouldnt have looked like this... From the hand of a professional... It was loose, not welded or anything! |
Arie de Best |
Arie that is the reason arnoud decided to scrap the old body converted to K-engine in the UK by a wel known firm The whole car was bodged together The work thijs did almost looks factory original |
Onno Könemann |
Then you have to cut out what you payed a company to do for you and fabricate it yourself: see image.

That's more like it indeed arie. and do I spot hammerite green? if not, it's almost the colour. I did my engine bay with it, looks nice. |
Alex G Matla |
Alex, no hammerite, just 2pac paint. |
