S.A., several years ago my belts were frayed where the buckle slides along them. Ssnake Oyl had a booth at an event I attended - see:
http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/
The show was awesome, thousands of classic, vintage American cars, muscle cars and mostly awesome custom street rods. I think there were about 3 British cars in attendance! Was a lot of fun for anyone that loves cars. Anyway, I sent them my belts to refurbish and I was happy with the result. One of my retractors was buggy and difficult to work and I had them try to fix that also. It helped, but didn't fix completely. I ended up replacing the units a few years later, but the belts looked good.

Wow, those belts are well and truly dead.

For what it's worth, I replaced my old belts with Securon types from the usual suspects, and they work fine. If you like originality, I can understand that, but I guess it would come down to a cost comparison between new Securons (or whatever) and getting the old Kangols fixed.

I just fitted Securon belts to my '65 Sprite, but as the mounting points on the Mk3 are different to later cars, I had to fabricate a couple of brackets to get the belts in the right position. Not a big problem though and I can't fault the belts. They will work at any angle, courtesy of the adjusters. Much more comfortable than the old fixed Britax ones.

Does anyone know if there is anyone in the UK who offers a similar service? our early kangols' alloy fixtures look lovely but the actual belts are pretty ropey...

S.A.

Many years ago I sent our original B/GT seat belts to Snake-Oyl Products for web replacement, and they did a great job. On the midget I went with Securon for the automatic retraction option like many other here.

Mothy,

I think Snake-Oyl ship internationally, you might wish to check with them at the attached link.
