MG Midget and Sprite Technical - King Pin Reamer

Just to be absolutely certain: The king pin reamer for the drum braked cars is another size than the one used for the disc braked ones? And it is not available from Moss or anyone else?

I will probably have to change the bushes in the stub axles, and as I already have new king pins and bushes that I got for a very nice price on eBay a long time ago I would rather try to change them than paying a lot for exchange stub axles.

I suppose it must be possible to use an adjustable reamer?

And of course you all understood that I have a drum-braked midget...

The bushes are different for disc and drum cars, don't know how easy it is to get the correct reamer, adjustables can be found quite cheap on Ebay.

I've used adjustable reamers in the past (to the horror of some "proper engineer" BBS contributors), they worked fine, but I did make up pilots for the reamers to keep both bushes lined up accurately.

You MUST use piloted reamers, I have bothe the std Midget knigpin reamer and a set of piloted ones for the early cars, but it's nt an easy job as Bronze doesn't like to be cut...

Mark is correct. If you don't get everything parallel/in line they're effectively worn out before you've gone anywhere.

Actually from a practical (bodger you might say) point of view, I've done them without pilots, with pilots and using the proper tool. It wasn't difficult and I can't say I've actually noticed any difference in longevity. Quicker, simpler and accurate using the right tool though.

I suspect longevity is more related to maintainance than initial set up unless you get it miles out, and those BBS contributors suggesting heavy oil not grease may have a point, that's what I use now.

Thanks everybody. IŽll have a look at eBay then.
