MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Kingpins (probably for umpteenth time)
Finally able to get back into the garage after a few medical issues. Going to need a lot of advice over the next wee while from all you knowledgeable chaps if you don't mind. Car is a 1972 RWA midget in need of total restoration by the way. First off, I've fitted new bushes to the stub axle, does anyone know where I can borrow the appropriate reamer preferably in South East Scotland? Failing that does anyone have a recommendation for a good machine shop in the same area who might do the job without the stepped reamer? Thanks in advance Bill |

Sharp intake of breath through clenched teeth. That reamer is an expensive item. I think some parts suppliers list it, but be aware that the Frogeye (drum) diameters are different from those of the later disc models. You just need a shop that can do it. Can't help in your area, but somebody will. Once it's reamed, the fitting of shims to get the 'snugness' just right is not the black art that some people say it is. Actually, it's fun and satisfying. |

Robert McGillivray should be able to point you in the right direction. |

Hi Bill where abouts in the contested borderlands are you? I think I've got a reamer somewhere, may well be the right size as it was used on 72 midget (twice) It is indeed a satisfying job to do. Seem to last a long time after they're done :-) |

Bill, If it's disc brakes you have... A trip to Edinburgh this week and I'll let you use mine. After Sunday I'll be out of the UK for a while on business. Best of... MGmike |

Thanks for the quick response. Nick, I had spotted that Moss list it at £158 in their new paper catalogue but it is still NLS on line. Couldn't have justified that price for single use. Rob, I'm in Melrose (though not a native borderer. Were just coming to the end of the season where the locals act as if the lands are still contested. Thanks for the offer, if I can't get sorted out closer to home would you be prepared to post it to me (at my expense of course) and I will send it back by return? Mike, I can only manage a trip to Edinburgh Wednesday or Thursday this week, daytime only I'm afraid. If this is no good I'm in no hurry- perhaps we could sort something out on your return to UK. Thanks again Bill |

Bill, Both those days are fine with me. I'm on a break from an overseas job and will be working on the 1300 in the vain hope I can get it to Glamis this weekend! Send me an email and we'll see what can be arranged. Best of... MGmike |

Mike / Bill. If you can't get together this week, Mike could drop the reamer off at mine (broxburn). to give Bill more time to collect it. Graeme |

Mike Email sent but TBH Graeme's suggestion would suit me better if that's ok with you. Thanks again to both of you for your kind offers of assistance. Bill |

Thanks to everyone who responded and a big thanks to Mike who took time out of his busy day to sort me out. Only another 998 jobs to do to get back on the road. Bill |

This series of posts just shows how many good people there are about and it makes you smile that even in your one lonely home garage you have a large number of helpers who will always lend a hand. eddie |
