MG Midget and Sprite Technical - LCB and Titan inlet

I have trawled the archives but cannot find an answer to this problem,so am asking for your help, kind people out there.

I have a 1098 midget Mk 2, with the 10CC motor, that I am restoring.I bought a secondhand LCB ( make unknown ), and want to replace the twin carbs with the Titan inlet manifold and an HIF i.e. the popular conversion done by many before me.

However, the profile of the centre branch of my LCB will not allow the Titan to sit down properly, and as a result the 'suck' from the engine is being lost and the car will not start. It fires instantly if I spray Easystart straight through into the engine.

So, my question is - can anyone suggest a make of LCB that has the correct profile centre pipe to allow the Titan to sit properly and therefore seal on the head ?

Maniflow perhaps ?

Thanks folks.

Bernie Higginson has done this with a 10CC engine. He might be watching the Eurovision Song Contest at the moment, but could be on later if the UK does badly - as usual.

What's cheaper to replace? The Titan or the lcb?

Consider machining the faces of either the Titan or the LCB - or both - to avoid interference, or use a spacer....

As Lawrence states - it may be simpler just to purchase another manifold for the HIF.

Many thanks for replies folks.

The Titan allows use of the HIF without fouling the bonnet, whereas other inlets such as the MG Metro one, do not. They are very hard to find and probably dearer used than a new LCB by Maniflow.

I think I will have to source an LCB rather than the inlet. Or maybe just keep the twin SUs after all !!

Myles,
I had the same problem with my Titan inlet fouling the centre branch of an unknown used LCB. I purchased a Maniflow and the centre branch clearance was perfect. As you suggest, probably best going for a Maniflow and fitting your Titan and single HIF. Its a mod well worth doing and no point in not using a rare Titan.
Good luck,

don't forget to get a price for the Maniflow from Kim at MagicMidget, he's often the cheapest.

Cheers Ross and David.
I had already decided to ring Kim tomorrow about the problem, so am pleased to have endorsement of him from elsewhere.
More outlay, but hopefully it will be worth it !

The other possibility would be to get the LCB pipe re-bent by a pipe specialist. Its presumably just a few degrees of adjustment of the radius as it exits the manifold plate.

Or even, if you are that way inclined, to make some saw slit cuts half way through the radius of the bend, adjust the bend to provide the clearance and then run beads of weld along the saw cuts.

Both much cheaper options than a new Maniflow - but that doesn't make them better choices of course!

As Rob says, I have an HIF on my 10CC engine, but I didn't use a Titan inlet manifold. I used a Minisport one and had the face machined to lean it back to clear the bonnet. No problem with the LCB clearance, but to be honest I don't know what make it is, I picked it up cheap at an Autojumble ages ago.

Rob. Me, watch Eurovision? How very dare you! I was eating worms which was infinitely preferable.

Bernie.

if im not too late to the party here, the Maniflow item I bought within the last month, bolted straight on, no issues with the LCB manifold I have (not sure where I got it, probably from Avonbar Racing many moons back)
Yes it is a pricey thing, but it works !
good luck
