MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Leak down
I have a 78 midget 1500cc. I bought this used and in need of mechanical repairs. Oil was pushing up through the dip stick tube and was told that the most probable cause was bad rings. I have rebuilt the engine replacing bearings, rings, tappets, seals, gaskets and had the block checked for tolerances. Now that it is back together and running I am still getting oil up the dip stick tube. Ugh. What else could be causing this problem. The more I thought about it the only other thing I can make sense of is a cracked piston. My next step is to do a compression check to locate what cylinder or cylinders this is occuring at. Is there something else I should be considering? Thanks |

This might sound off the wall a bit, but, -- A recent poster on here had a similar problem if I remember correctly. It turned out that the oil dip stick was incorrect, and they were over filling. Are you cetain yours in filled to the correct level? |
