MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Location of reversing light switch

Hello all.
I,ve got a minor problem that is really bugging me. I cant find the location of the reversing light switch on my sprite.

Haynes manuel says that there is an aperture 215mm from the front of the tunnel that allows access to the switch but I dont seem to have this. I've peered into the tunnel from all ways but cant see anything that looks right. To be honest I don't know for sure that it has one fitted but I dont know where to look.

have included pic of tunnel so if any one can help that would be great.

On the remote on the other side from where this picture was taken.

For a UK car on the botom of the gear stick drivers side.

what year is it?
Onno Könemann

well if it's in the Haynes then absolutely it might be so or not :)

Hi Onno

Car is 1970 but engine and box were a recon taken out of a 68 midget.

I've taken pic from other side, am I getting warmer?

damn my eyes - item 62

yes but no apeture

you have an early 'box without reversing light switch.
David Smith

Thanks David I shall stop searching. Seeing as I have the wiring and the lamps I suppose I can just wire them into a two way switch in the cockpit.
M Adams

Could be a box from a Morris Minor or A35

Guy

You just need a remote from a later box to fit one.
But it is an engine out job to replace it.
Onno Könemann

As Onno says, you can fit the remote from a later 'box.

If the remote was from a Minor or A35, the Sprite gearlever wouldn't have enough throw.

You can just connect the wiring to a switch on the dash, but you need to fit a tell-tale light so that you don't inadvertently leave it switched on.

Thanks for all that.

Don't want to take engine and box out again unless I really really have to so will make do with switch in dash.

It is not that hard.
1 or 2 days work and very mutch fun to get to know your car.

Had as much fun as I could take when I transplanted engine and box from donor midget. It was a stupid mistake to overlook at the time, live and learn. Will leave it in place for time being, but thanks for the encouragement.

We all make them...

Did do a 34 minute engine removal recently (bonet was off already)with a friend on his midget.
But it was the 3rd time it came out in 1,5 days.........
Don't trust new parts to be good (bloody clutch cover)
