MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Long term squeak & rattle found
Happy New Year to everyone. For years I have had two very annoying midget noises - along with all the other less irritating ones. 1st a constant tinny squeak on the N/S front, only appears after about 2 miles on slightly uneven roads. (which are most of them) Not effected by cornering or bumps or braking. 2nd a resonant rattle that only appears between 2k - 2.5k rpm, located in the dash, behind the steering wheel. Received a new dashboard recently and just fitted it. First squeak was a loose N/S bonnet hinge bolt (the one located right up inside and behind the dash board). Second rattle was one of the captive sliding bolts which holds the crash rail in place, had no nut on it. Probably been rattling around since manufacture in 72! Both the above are probably impossible to get to without the dash removed, so its worth a tighten if you are in there. Its made my New Year - sad as that sounds! and now looking forward to a squeak and rattle free 2015. Tony |

A good job the long term squeak wasn't the mice from a Honda Civic. You'd have more problems than a small annoying noise. (See the "midget & sprite" thread, currently showing on general release.) -- :). |

Tony, Thanks for the tips. I've got at least one unsolved squeak near the offside seat on our Midget. But watch out for these as well ;-) http://www.synlube.com/IncredibleEdibleCar1.htm |
