Whats the question.

with the bracket bought at Gaydon and a second hand alternator from a 77 MGB, wich belt is needed?
are the two front adjuster brackets OK for the alternator or others are they needed?

AND.....

What have I to do with the wiring?

thanks for help
laurent

Wow small questions long answers:-)

First, The later MGB alternator has a smaller pulley but with the existing belt it can be done. The alternator sits a tad higher but just ok, if not a belt from a mini will fit, take the old one with you to the shop and check if the new one is a bit shorter. The lower adjusting bracket can be used IIRC and at the rear its the new bracket and at the upper front its bolted against the waterpumphousing.

Before doing this consider 2 important things:

1 change to negative earth
2 You have to find an other rev counter because you will loose the mechanical pick up at the rear of the generator.

If you are looking for a new revcounter keep in mind the decision made at point 1. They can be converted but then you have to search the archives or ask Olaf because he did this with mine. (I had a spare revcounter but it was positive earth and I converted the car to negative earth)

In the archives is a lot of info on neg/pos earth and about the electrical changes you have to make. Its not difficult. In fact its mainly soldering all the wires from the mainloom together except the black one thats earth. And off course removing the voltage regulator.

These are good links from the archive:

Laurent, still or already negative earth? Not to be picky on your English but to be sure:-)

Bas

But then this is a simpel saturday afternoon job.

One of the links gave a neat sollution if you want to keep things original looking: make a bridge in the voltage regulator to join the wires that have to be joined. I just ripped the beast out but if you want better looks then the bridge idea is neat.
Bas Timmermans

you're right Bas, the good word was already.
