MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Lower Rebound Strap Studs
1974 MG midget 1275cc. Well, working on putting the re-arched springs back in so I thought I may as well replace the rebound straps while I was in there. Mistake. Trying to remove the nut on the bottom stud for the strap and it came right off, along with 1/4 of the tip of the stud! Now what? Has this happened to anyone else out there? How the heck am I going to repair this? The stud is part of the axle unit if I'm not mistaken. Any ideas? Matthew

New studs used to be available, but I am not seeing them on Moss. Buy a bolt about that size, saw off the head, get a friend with a MIG welder to attach it. David "I did warn you about those" Lieb

This happend to me too, and it took my dad a bit of thinking to sort out! We ended up drilling and tapping a smaller thread into the center of the old stud, then making up and extension piece. We actually epoxyed the whole thing together and then ran a die over the top of the whole thing. Not an in-car procedure I feel. Others may have easier solutions, but this is how we fixed it. hope this helps

I was caught out on the road and made a quick repair. I slid the strap back on , found a large washer that would just fit on short end of stub and hit it with a spot ofe;lectric weld. 3 years now and i have not got on to fix it properly. Sandy
