MG Midget and Sprite Technical - LV Spray guns

What would one of these LVLP spray guns be like with cellulose?
With low operating pressure it might be a suitable choice for the more modest performance home compressors.

You would think that being from Jawel Paints that it ought to be half decent.

I wonder what you do with the water trap filter? Would it need cleaning/emptying/changing?

Guy, I have a "Fast Mover" fmt3006 gun (from ebay shop) which looks exactly the same as that one! The spec. says it will work with 4.5 to 6 cfm and my 50l, 2hp compressor delivers 5.4 cfm at the tool. It has a 1.3 tip and works ok with celly colour.

I also have a similar but cheaper gun with 1.8 tip for high-build primer.

My "professional" opinion is there good for a throw away reason

I buy these china guns from time to time (the bright purple) hvlp guns from harbor freight for cheap stupid money around $15 usa there the same as your machine mart and come from china

Brand new right out of the box they lay down a nice easy finish ...it my not be 100% perfect if you dont use those guns all the time.

Then after the 1st application they go down hill quickly and i find are good for about 5 applications 1st a nice paint coat, the 2nd use is good for a decent okay paint coat then after that there great for priming

But most of the time there so cheap its not worth cleaning them by the time you spend an hour plus a quart of thinner/acetone/ exylene or what ever to get them clean as a quart of these chems cost around $10 and these guns only cost $15...so i just chuck them in the trash unless i know ill need one to prime in the following weeks

The big problem with these guns is there so craviced and nooked thst its almost impossiable to get them PERFECTLY clean, and for these guns to perform well they have got to be spotless,

On top of thst the internal parts are ... softer and with paint being so abrasive they wear more then id like and that also encourages paint to stick harder on slightly worn parts

But my conusion... there great to spray a whole midget at one time as a a painter, but after that chuck it in the bin no matter how clean you make it the flowing time you will fight it like a red headed step child and the proformance will not be what it was the 1st time... and even at the price for this gun your asking about... its well in the margin to call it the price of doing business

The temptation is the outer finish... it really is nice, and high end piwder coated and will distrub you to trash bin such a nice looking gun... just remember nice looking dosnt mean good performance

For the 35£ price tag ... i may buy it for the St time for the purpose of the filter and cradle but after that id get the purple cheap gun and trwnsfer the filter to thise guns... id lay good odds that way its 35£ cuz your paying for the filter and stand holder not a better quality gun over the purple HVLP guns

My 2 cents

Thanks Prop,
Useful thoughts there. I would only be wanting one for occasional use. My main thought was that it may get over the problem of compressor capacity for the lower spec DIY type compressors upto around 2.5hp

I have "proper" guns too, but the compressor won't keep up so a lot of down time and uneven mist quality too
GuyW

Yeah... i ran these little guns off my pan cake compressor before it got stolen and it kept up fairly nice as your only using around 20 to 40 psi of air pressure i want to say my compressor spec was... let me look it up.

Hope that link works...mine had a 5 gal tank and a 1.5 hp motor but the compressor ran pretty much full time but it kept up ... i wodnt want to go any smaller on the compressor but that compressor did struggle with more traditional spary guns that were NOT hvlp

Hvlp = high volume low pressure

For an occasional use....eehhhhh, dont hold your breath to long like i said at rhe price point they are there great for that 1st spray job, then they just go down hill after that... there is no way to get them cleaned to perfection as it only takes a micro partical to mess up your next project... there just really cheap made esp internally...but at $15 there hard to beat for that 1st spray coating

I doubt you can get more then 5 uses or 10 gallons max out of them before there just done and ready for the trash can

After the 1st use the 2nd is great for metal fence post and lawnmower painting stuff rhat dosnt matter much

If your lookimg for something to keep around the shop to use occasionally then and know its going to always work then id askna pro car painter for a recommendation bug you will easliy spend $200 ... may try a pawn shop or ebay for something good and used and get it for a good price... just make sure you know what your getting cuz these cheap sprayers look lime there the real deal wnd there just not.

I hope thst helps

No Prop, l am not in the market for a new compressor. I have 2 already. My DeVibliss pot gun is fine, it is just slow work with the air l have. Then l saw the LPLV gun and wondered how others found these for small jobs. Its not for professional use like your work Prop, or big paint jobs.
GuyW

Sorry guy,

i was showjng what i had as a compressor that would be the minume needed to run this paint gun adequately.

That's ok Prop.

Actually if you managed to use one with a compressor like that then I would have no problems with mine. I looked at the link earlier, but didn't check out the spec which is only a pretty whimpish 2.9cfm! In fact it lists nail gun use with a tick, but not much else. All of the continuous supply uses like spraying, sanding grinding have crosses against them as not suitable. So I guess the one you had that was stolen maybe used a bigger motor.
