MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Marina crank / flywheel / clutch
I'm going to be using a Marina crank in my big engine build. I'm aware of the differences between the flywheel flange of the midget / Marina crank, and the need to machine the Midget flywheel to fit. As I don't have a flywheel with the engine, would it be easier to get hold of a Marina item? If I do, will there be problems with using a normal Midget clutch? Will I need a Marina clutch and if so, will that work with the input shaft of my Midget ribcase 'box, and the Midget clutch actuation gear? Or shall I just get a Midget flywheel and have it machined to fit? I'm sure there's a simple answer... |

Yes, the simple answer is that the Marina flywheel is a larger diameter, so no good. You need a Midget flywheel and machine it, or machine the crank. |

Brilliant - thank you Dave. |

Steve, what are you going to do about the rear engine plate? inorder to hook up the gearbox. and the oil seals in the rear engine plate? I Just recently became aware of this modification when Nick was looking into it, just before his moment in time. prop |

Standard rear backplate Prop - change of crank / flywheel has no bearing ('scuse pun) on it. Oil seals in backplate? From my (admittedly dodgy) memory, there aren't any. |

Yep simply machine the flywheel from a Midget. It only needs a knats! |

Thats intresting, I was thinking the set-up was similar to a mini cooper where they dont have a scroll seal and a lump of steel for the flywheel to bolt onto and an "actual real rear engine oil seal" (say that 3 times) I hope it works out for you, looking forward to the pics. prop |
